Story & Clue

[Light, whimsical classical music plays]
Apothecary: Careful with those jars, please!
[Sound of a door opening and a bell ringing]
Those contain everything from powdered cinchona bark to the finest lavender oil. I was just grinding up some peppermint and ginger root for a traveler whose stomach has been tossed about by a difficult journey.
[Sound of a mortar and pestle grinding]
Apothecary: He also took a particular liking to my Hungarian water. It’s a fine rosemary and citrus cologne.
[Sound of a liquid being sprayed]
Apothecary: He asked if I could ship a crate of it to his home, as he'd never smelled anything so refreshing. I told him that I offer free delivery for any customer who lives right here in the city, within five miles of this shop. But he let out a tired laugh and said:
Delegate Voice: I wish, sir, you have my gratitude for the kind offer. But I fear I’m quite beyond the reach of such a service. My home town is much further than five miles from Philadelphia.
Apothecary: He paid his tab with a glinting silver quill—
[Sound of a pen scratching on paper]
Apothecary: —tucked it into his coat, and mentioned he was headed toward the waterfront. If you hurry, you might see him near the docks!
[Ending musical flourish]

Hint

Aide: Bless you for coming back out. I couldn't step a toe inside that place; my allergies would have me sneezing for a week with all those dusty herbs. What did the clerk tell you? The gent we are looking for lives over five miles away, you say? Well, Saints preserve us! That means he's no local neighbor from just down the street. He's a traveler who's come a long way to reach Philadelphia today. Let's hurry on and find us some more clues.
